Plant rehabilitation centre for the protection of sensitive plant species

Reducing impact on our environment

Southern Namibia is home to a diverse range of plant species, some of which are particularly sensitive due to the region’s harsh climate and fragile ecosystems. The area's arid conditions, characterized by low rainfall and high temperatures, make it home to unique flora that has adapted to survive in extreme environments. However, these plants are highly vulnerable to changes in their habitat, including climate change, land degradation, and human activities such as mining and agriculture.

In the development of solar PV plants, Emesco strives to minimize disruption to the natural environment. We take care to preserve natural water channels, and during construction, we temporarily relocate sensitive plant species to a nursery to ensure their protection. This approach helps safeguard the region's unique flora while allowing for the responsible growth of renewable energy infrastructure.

Establishment of the RPSP Nursery

As part of Rosh Pinah Solar Park's alignment with its Environmental Management Plan, Emesco, in conjunction with the Lithops Research & Conservation Foundation, established an on-site plant rehabilitation facility for the protection and relocation of sensitive plant species prior to construction.
