SUSTAINABILITY
Refresh Market Garden
An Emesco Socio-economic development initiative.
Sustainable Development
Located alongside Emesco’s 5.4 MW solar PV plant in Rosh Pinah, Namibia, is our recently established Refresh Market Garden which thrives on a passion for sustainable agriculture, community support and empowerment.
This initiative provides fresh, nutritious produce, which is not always available to the Rosh Pinah community, and offers valuable training to community members on managing and operating the garden. By equipping them with the skills needed to run the system, we will enable individuals to generate income and foster economic growth within the community.
This hands-on approach enhances food security and strengthens community ties, as members work together to cultivate a healthier, more self-sufficient future.
Establishment of the garden
With the support of the Namaskluft farm land-owner, Rosh Pinah Solar Park and Rosh Pinah Zinc Mine, Emesco has established a market garden which is now producing a weekly harvest of vegetables for the Rosh Pinah community.
Supply of fresh produce
This initiative offers fresh, nutritious produce that is often unavailable to the local community because of supply shortages linked to its remote location and the arid conditions that make it difficult for residents to grow food on their own.
Greening the community
In addition to supplying fresh produce to the community, our market garden is dedicated to promoting sustainability through the provision of various plants, including aromatic herbs for home gardening and indigenous trees that support community greening efforts.
